Pat Haden, JK McKay, Richard Riordan celebrate mentoring at USC

Catholic Big Brothers Big Sisters' very own Mike Trueblood named Big Brothers Big Sisters National Big of the Year

Mike and his Little Brother Joseph have been matched for four years, beginning when Joseph was nine years old, through Catholic Big Brothers Big Sisters' Mentoring Children of Promise Community-Based program.

Joseph and his seven siblings are cared for by their great grandmother who continually expresses great appreciation for Mike and his presence in the life of her family.

One of Mike and Joseph's favorite things to do together is play tennis. Mike is in the South Dakota Tennis Hall of Fame and Joseph says he wants to be a tennis pro when he grows up, but knows that college will come first. Joseph and Mike recently went to the bank to open a savings account for Joseph's college fund.

Mike, a senior citizen, has been involved with Catholic Big Brothers Big Sisters in LA for more than 25 years helping with recruiting and fundraising, as the board chair, and most recently a Big Brother. Joseph is already planning ahead for his involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters, declaring that he too will be a Big Brother someday.

Mike and Joseph will be honored at the Big Brothers Big Sisters national conference in Dallas.

Meet Little Brother Jose and Big Brother JP

When Little Brother Jose (11 yrs. old) met his Big Brother for the first time a year ago, their friendship got off to a great start. They soon discovered a shared interest in football and basketball. Big Brother JP is no stranger to Catholic Big Brothers Big Sisters and knows first-hand the impact of mentoring because he was a Little Brother in our program. Now an EMT and volunteer firefighter, JP wants to give someone else the same positive experience he had growing up.
