AmeriCorps*VISTA Opening

Description

Make a difference in the lives of at-risk youth! Catholic Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for skilled, self-motivated individuals to serve as AmeriCorps*VISTA members for one year. This Los Angeles County-based 80-year-old mentoring agency will provide training in the requirements of AmeriCorps*VISTA. The individuals will help develop ongoing procedures for finding qualified adult volunteer mentors, will assist in our Community Relations Department, and will provide research and development of new corporate partnerships for the agency. Candidates must be able to supplement the federal stipend by having assistance with housing, transportation and daily living requirements

Additional Qualifications

Qualifications include high school diploma and some college. Bi-lingual fluency in Spanish required. Ability with Internet research techniques, Microsoft Word and Excel software are a must. Ideal for local college students seeking a one-year break from studies and an opportunity to make a difference in the community.

Position Title

Long Beach Mentor Program Manager

Description

The Long Beach Program Manager will supervise, direct and coordinate a mentoring program involving various collaborating agencies, high school and adult volunteers, parents and students.  As a Program Manager and part of the Mentoring Program Department you will work with agency staff to increase CBBBS youth served. CBBBS commits to transforming lives through rewarding and enriching relationships between trained mentors and youth of all faiths and backgrounds throughout the county of Los Angeles. To date, our Community Based and twelve Site Based locations have reported an increase in matches of "Bigs" and "Littles" by 15%.

Job Summary The Long Beach Mentor Program Manager will implement agency
program  procedure and policies and Big Brothers Big Sisters established Standards of Practices for mentor programs.  The Program Manager will be responsible for all the operational facets of planning, supervision, implementation of the agency's Long Beach mentoring program, it's volunteers, parents and students.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE The Program Manager will be a relationship-builder possessing the ability to persuasively communicate with diverse groups of people and organizations.  He or she will posses the following skills and experience: strong organizational and reporting skills; strong background in child development and education theory and practices; experience in community outreach, agency partnerships, youth and volunteer recruitment, and after-school programming. The Program Manager will be a results-oriented professional with the keen ability to gain acceptance of ideas, plans and activities to meet and exceed organizational goals.  He or she will have a solid understanding of stakeholders as customers and leverage that understanding to add significant value.  Bilingual (Spanish speaking) preferred.

Internship Opportunities-DHH Program
Position

Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer Internship opportunities available approximately 8 to 10 hours per week including irregular hours or weekends.  The intern will gain experience in areas of a service delivery and integration of program management for enrolling, matching, and supporting mentoring relationships. In addition intern will learn in all facets of recruitment and special events as well.  Intern should be a junior, senior or graduate in good standing majoring in Deaf Studies.  Intern should have a degree of awareness, involvement and knowledge of the deaf community and deaf culture. Additionally, the intern should have a fluency skill in American Sign Language.

Position

Working directly with the Community Relations Manager, job responsibilities includes: assist in planning Big-Little match events; handling volunteer and child program inquiries; writing and sending out press releases and other office correspondence such as requests for donations and thank you letters; writing and assembling quarterly newsletter; public recruitment for volunteers at corporations, universities and volunteer fairs; assist in fundraising activities for agency.
